The phrase is in common usage in Britain.  It means 'used seriously' or 
'not under test conditions, but rather in the real world'.

The writer intends to indicate that the vendor actually uses the product 
"for real", implying that they know what they're talking about when they 
tell you how great it is.  It's a bit chatty, but if it's marketing copy, 
that's probably OK.  No one in Britain would think it odd.
