Thanks so much for your reply and sorry for not specifying the application -
it's Word 97. I'm not sure if it differs from 2000 in this respect but I
cannot see where to name the LIST template. The only thing I can see where
you could enter a name is "ListNum field list name". I've tried to create
three levels of outline by linking three styles to the top three levels and
put in a different name for each style in the ListNum box but the styles
will not stay at the outline level I link them to.
