Keyboard tappers:
I am playing around with a G4 Macintosh with Mac OS X 10.2.5 (pronounced
'Mac oh ess 10 10.2.5', which sure makes those Mac fanatics look stupid, so
let's just call it Mac OSIX and be done with it).
Can anybody direct me to an active mailing list for Mac OS X? I have tried
searching with Google and other engines but, because most of them do not
index words of less than three letters (the words 'OS' and 'X' come to
mind), I have not been able to find a good one.
The immediate problem is that I logged in as root, fired up the Terminal
window, and tried to change the prompt string from
[Hedley-Fingers-Computer:~] hfinger%
to
Wednesday, 30-Apr-2003, 13:46h ~hfinger %
by using the set command thusly (tcsh shell):
set prompt="%B%d, %D-%w-%Y, %Ph %C %#%b "
(Those of you familiar with UNIX will know what I mean.)
Well, this got the desired result, but only in the current session. If you
log out and log in again as root or anybody else, the prompt string reverts
to the original. This is certainly an affront to the omnipotent root! I
suspect a nasty little start-up script that resets everything to the values
that Apple deems proper, but where is it?
Thank you for your attention,
Hedley
