Thanks for the various suggestions. Yes, it must have to do with the non-linear storage of text, or pending corrections or some other a related matter. Unfortunately I can't remember just what I did to fix it -- I said it did a Maggie but I tried all the tricks and now I think baout it I'm not sure which one it was that did the trick. It could have been the RTF trick. When I get a moment I might see if my backups go back far enough and I can try it all again. One interesting thing is that the doc had hardly had time to get too much Word rubbish in it. I pasted plain text in several tranches. Then I applied a few styles, changed punctuation and deleted a few sentences. Then over to Frame.
