We came across this issue when we updated from Frame 6 to 7. .. some time
ago.
This problem hadn't occured before and since the upgrade fixed other issues,
it was rather frustrating.
Everything has been importing just fine after installing the patch though.

I am just guessing here, but I guess I am well qualified for it :-)
Word doesn't have to store its text contiguously. Rather, it has to piece
together indexes to the ranges that comprise the text. Thus it is
*technically* possible to have a Word document whose Binary File Format
contains your text in a scattered relationship. If Frame was to directly
interpret the BFF from a simplified point of view, they might miss this
subtletly in merely stripping out the text sequences and following up the
formatting indexes.
