[austechwriter] Re: Importing into Frame from Word

Daryl,

Pure theory, but I suspect that this is the kind of thing that can happen i=
f you don't purge the Word file of pending corrections before you try to im=
port. Word collects all kinds of invisible change information and rubbish i=
nformation at section breaks and at the end of the document. The screen dis=
play looks quite normal, and you are not aware of how convoluted the file i=
s until the system can't cope any more and crashes.

Doing a "save as" before exporting or doing anything complex seems to solve=
most problems. When I am really paranoid about Billy Gates's hidden traps =
I will open a new file, put a blank space in it, retrieve the possibly dirt=
y file after the space, then delete the space. What is left is a document t=
hat is formatted internally the same way it appears on screen.=20

As an experiment, I suggest you try this as a bit of magic, and see if it s=
olves your problem.

Proper theoretical explanations can be found on the MS Word MVP site (http:=
//www.mvps.org/word/). Despite the name, some of the contributions are very=
much from the Op Ed point of view.

Good luck,

Subject: [austechwriter] Importing into Frame from Word

I recently imported a longish but uncomplicated Word doc (a novel) into
Frame and found that in just a few cases, paragraphs had been transposed.
Maybe half a dozen instances out of 600 paragraphs. Has anyone seen this or
know why it happens?
