[austechwriter] Cannot remove unwanted topics from the HTML Help project

I posted the following to the HATT group -
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HATT/> - without success:
We have a .chm file containing 143 topic files (.htm). While the .chm
is still compiling satisfactorily in HTML Help Workshop (version
4.74.8702.0), we have lost the ability to remove unwanted topics from
the project:
On the Project tab, click Add/Remove topic files.
The Topic files dialog opens with only the very top level topic
listed.
How can I restore display of all topics to this dialog?
If I can't does it matter? For example is my project partly corrupt
and liable to fail? Is my project carrying baggage that increases its
size unnecessarily?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
