MEETA VYAS DIRECTOR, LIVING OCEANS PROGRAM New York, NY, Tuesday, July 23, 2002 - Audubon today named Meeta Vyas, a conservation leader with international experience, to head its Living Oceans Program. She will be based at Audubon headquarters in New York City and will begin her duties August 5th. Since 2000, Vyas has served as CEO and Secretary General of World Wildlife Fund for Nature - India. As the leader of the Indian branch of the world-wide organization, she made significant improvements in the organization. She developed an innovative coastal and marine protection program, expanded WWF-India's efforts to protect forest ecosystems, promoted greater protection of wetlands, and fought to protect high-profile species, like the besieged Bengal tiger. "As CEO of WWF-India, Meeta has proven to be a dynamic and innovative conservation leader," said Audubon President and CEO John Flicker. "We're very excited that she has agreed to lead our Living Oceans Program. She has the experience that will enable Audubon to continue our past success in this area, and build a strong marine conservation program." Prior to her work with World Wildlife Fund, Ms. Vyas was CEO of Signature Brands, Inc. Under her leadership, she improved the financial performance of this $300 million corporation and turned it into a world-class provider of brand name consumer and professional products. She increased Signature Brands's increased sales and market share and operating income. She also refocused and upgraded the company's sales and marketing team, launched 12 new products in less than four months and set sales records while significantly reducing costs. From 1991 to 1997, Ms. Vyas worked for General Electric as General Manager and Senior Vice President of Corporate Business Development, where she developed the Global Strategic Plan for GE Capital. She also served as General Manager of the Appliances Division, and as Manager of Corporate Business Development. She also worked as Engagement Manager for McKinsey & Company (1987-1991), Assistant Portfolio Manager for Fisher Brothers (1984-87), and Senior Engineer for Exxon Chemical (1980-82). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from MIT in 1980 and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University in 1984.
