>>6. Procol Harum-Skip Softly
Beth,
I've been a fan of Procol Harum for ages. Like a few other prog bands, they
had a very good poet-in-residence write their lyrics. He and the band
gradually evolved towards darker, moodier atmospheres, but kept a sense of
humor throughout.
That tune is from their 2nd album, Shine on Brightly. Many folks consider that
album and the next one, Salty Dog, to be their best. I like Grand Hotel and
Broken Barricades the best, then the symphonic live album and the first four
ablums. My slightly snide recommendation is to buy their first seven albums.
Check out their history and discography at allmusic.com to see where the other
sample songs you've liked fit. Actually, I just took a look there and
discovered there is a 2003 release of new tunes (AMG's reviewer liked it). I
also read the review of the 30th anniv. box set. Dang! Now I have more Procol
Harum to buy....
Happy listening,
Nick
