[atlantaprog] Re: new music....

I've always loved the Strawbs, but not going to NF this year. Decided on
RoSfest instead, I can't afford both. I'm going to see TMB do the Foxtrot show
on June 11th though...I can't wait. Then hopefully they'll do The Lamb in
Atlanta in the fall! :-) I can't wait to see Caravan and Nektar, I might have
to skip Progday though to see TMB and Caravan and Nektar! Oh well...too many
choices right now;)lol I love it!

I really do love my Caravan..its the first full CD I have of them, but I've
always loved them on any samplers I had! :-)

PEACE
Beth

    2. Barclay James Harvest-Mayday (I think this is the fave here)

I'd like to know more about BJH. They're one of the few prominent 70's prog
bands I've never heard. Suggestions anyone?

    5. PFM-River of Life

PFM are the primo Italian prog band. This track from Photos of Ghosts is the
Anglicized version of Appena Un Po' from Per Un Amico. As a rule I prefer the
original Italian lyric versions of most PFM tunes. Something about the lyrics
gets in the way of truly appreciating the music. When they sing in Italian it's
much easier to just enjoy the melodies!

    6. Procol Harum-Skip Softly

I also need to know a bit more about PH. I know their "hits", some of which
don't exactly blow me away, but I'm sure there are deeper tracks which would be
right up my alley.

    7. Sebastian hardie-Glories Shall Be Released
    8. Sebastian Hardie-Dawn of Our Sun
    9. Sebastion Hardie-Journey Through Our Dreams
    10. Sebastian Hardie-Everything Is Real

These four are actually an extended suite called "Four Moments" IIRC. It's
basically by-the-numbers symphonic prog. Not especially memorable, but still
quite nice. Good tron & Moog work.

    11. Trimvirat-The March To the Eternal City

From Spartacus, it includes a wailing synth lead in the "Italian
Improvisation" bridge section. Spartacus is the album that contains
Triumvirat's most ELP-like moments, but this track isn't one of them.

I'm not familiar with the other tracks you listed, but on the whole I like
your English friend's taste!

    I also got:
Kansas-Somewhere To Elsewhere (LOVE IT! thanks JC!

I'm mixed on Kansas. I've heard some good bits from their early days, but I
haven't felt compelled to seek them out.

Loreena McKennitt-The Book of Secrets (always love her

I've got this. She's pretty good too, but after playing the heck out of this
and another LM CD several years ago, I hardly listen to her at all now.

Caravan-In the Land of Grey and Pink

Just got this myself. I'm waiting for it to grow on me. It hasn't yet, but
since they'll be on the bill with Nektar at the Variety next Sept. I want to
know a bit more about them.

    Strawbs-Bursting At the Seam

Another group I'm mixed on. But if you're going to NEARfest, you better get
familiar with them!
