[atlantaprog] Re: making it happen: talk or action?

Augusta and also Columbia, SC if ya'll are willing to travel a bit..its only
about 3.5 hours from Atlanta and Augusta is about 2. I'm pretty sure I could
book some bands in both places and who knows where else:) I'd love to get more
info. on that...like have bands email me and tell me how far they are willing
to travel and what they feel they'd need paid...but we can get into that later!
:-)
I actually think you took off totally straight up there Veronica! You write
better than you give yourself credit for!!! I do know that Greg is a MASTER at
writing though! ;) I agree with everything you said I do believe...I'm going
to give it my ALL to be at that meeting...its hard though....during the
week...(we only have one car)....anyway....we'll see! I'm going to reread what
Veronica wrote and write up some ideas I have...probably post it tomorrow...I'm
wiped out tonight! Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Thanks for making
us get our butts moving Veronica!!!!!

PEACE
Beth

  Hey Beth,

that's so awesome, I'm sure I speak for all concerned when I say we
appreciate that. I'm not sure if I'll be at the next ARIA meeting, we have
tentative vacation plans for that week, so here's some things I'd like to
  start tossing around:

  1) What items should a collective press kit include? 2) Besides band
photos, etc. has anyone got any press clippings? Since a lot of us were at
Rogue Fest, shouldn't we try and get some press from atlantashows.com, who
had a rep there, and anyone else who might be writing an article on it? 3)
Should this joint venture fall under the heading of an "ARIA production"?
If so, is there an ARIA logo with a brief description (as simple as ARIA:
Art Rock In Atlanta) we could use to present this collective package with
to help make it more cohesive and "professional"? 4) Does someone have the
photo and graphics capability to create a collective band photo page (or
pages) complete with text, contact info, etc.? 5) What will we use for
audio? We would need a sampler cd with each band represented on it, with a
lable, etc. I can volunteer to make a compilation and burn a few single
copies, but I'm not great with making cd labels. Someone else would have
to create the label and/or cd cover. Again, the graphics thing.

This collective press kit would have to state a kind of purpose in the "bio
and information sheet" portion if we're specifically trying to get monthly
shows, as in something like "ARIA presents a unique showcase of revolving
talent and original music with sounds ranging from 70's art rock, classic
rock, prog rock, ..... (help me out here......), with (X number of)
different bands each bill is unique. The shows exceed the scope of your
average rock club show and appeal to just about all fans of the different
  rock genres...."

Okay, this is why I'm not a press witer, but you get my drift. There's got
to be some reason why a booker would be immediately interested in booking a
monthly, or even a one time showcase of mostly unknown or little known
bands. We have to give them a reason, and it has to be at the top of the
press kit, or the whole thing goes in the trash. It has to be descritive
and concise, fairly accurate and inclusive, and without being cheesy, cheap
and fake sounding wherever possible. Anyone up to the task on this?

Give me time, I'll think of more stuff to toss out there, but this is going
to be a real Project if we actually do this and do it right. It would be
well worth it to get the regular gigs and higher visibility for all of us
of course, but it's going to take a bunch of us to collaborate.
Everybody's got a specialty they can contribute, Beth's good with talking
up the bookers, Greg's good with the internet stuff, Allen's got the
meetings happening, etc. We can put together a first rate package to take
around to not just the Atlanta venues - after all, there really aren't that
many we can even deal with - but to other cities, like Athens first off,
then maybe even further out. - V.
