[atlantaprog] Re: making it happen: talk or action?

"how about someone collecting everyone's
kits and presenting them together? Who will do any/all of this, etc"
I for one would LOVE to try this....I'd be glad to make it my mission in life
right now! I've already started an email and a list...and yes Veronica,
Brandyhouse AND Smith's are both on it. :-)

I say LET'S MOVE OUT MEN (and progbabes also);)lol oh my...Alex (z-bop) is
rubbing off on me;)lol

I really want this to happen! I'm in....

I'd like to find a monthly venue as much as the next band. Believe me, I'm
really sick of being mostly ignored by the regular venues and having to
compete with the all the endless bands in Atlanta that all sound just like
Hoobastank. We're a rock band and we have to have a rock venue. We just
don't "qualify" as being the hottest thing in town, even though we work
hard for our shows like everyone else, (sometimes harder from what I've
seen) and yes, people even like us. That can be said for all of you guys
too, so basically we're all in the exact same boat. I'd like to know if
there's a plan of action to find a venue that will have us once a month?
Can we start a discussion about the possibilities? Like, we already agree
on contacting a venue about this, but have we talked about who, when, and
how? Maybe there's a good way to do this. Maybe we might need a
"collective promo package" to pitch to Jakes and others, as a means to get
ourselves promoted together with a "theme?" Has anyone considered the
Brandy House? How about Smith's? They have theme nights sometimes. If
we don't have a collective package, how about someone collecting everyone's
kits and presenting them together? Who will do any/all of this, etc.?
Let's swap war stories about good and bad venues and good and bad booking
agents to help figure out a better approach, and what venues to just avoid.
It's just like being self employed. You have to go after business, it's
probably not just going to come to you, and you can't give up after a few
failures. I'll be the first to admit Atlanta totally sucks for it's live
music. Every other city I have ever been to has much more appreciation for
live music than this town for some god-forsaken reason (can you identify
with the frustration here?) but here we all are, and we banded together for
a reason: self promotion, did we not? Let's talk about plans of action.

booking and promoting agent sure wish that Atlanta was more open about
their booking and paid the bands more. I think it sucks that venues are
afraid to let bands like Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and others of
"different" styles play! Its just sad. I think if we all work together we
could get something going like NEWears (I do believe that Allen brought
this up recently)....I'd love to see this happen in the Atlanta area! Wade
and Matthew have started it for us and Allen is ready and willing to get
things moving...we all just have to pitch in! :-)
