Hal,

It's pretty heavy but also has some spine-chilling clean parts (some jazzy 
with brushes on percussion).  You'll have to get used to some of the 
vocals, but again, there are some really sweet clean vocal parts very 
reminiscent of Nick Drake (English folk).  It is a concept album of sorts 
in that it is essentially one long song.  The more you listen to it the 
more you realize how complicated and beautiful the entire structure of the 
cd is.  I've been listening to it for years and it has never grown old.  Later,
