Bastien is the recipient of the 2007 AIRI Artist-in-Residence Award, a 3-week residency stay and exhibition in Atlanta. This show will be the first installment of his newest series of photographs, featuring work shot at various locations throughout the metro area during his residency. Batien's prior series of large-scale photographic portraits, titled Mammal Thoughts, was featured in the recent TransATLantic 2007: sensibility, seduction & self-reflection exhibition at Eyedrum last December. In Scènes de Genre, he continues to explore bodily identity and philosophical self-reflection, while shifting his focus from a cogitative perspective to a collective focus of mediative mass-reflection. Through June 21 Eyedrum’s programming is supported in part by the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs and by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners under the guidance of the Fulton County Arts Council. |
