Well, yeah, I used that term! But I want to make sure folks understand
that I DO support the policy and I certainly will be at as many shows
as I can (and so will most of the other Z-folks I suspect)... I just
have a knee-jerk reaction to any policy that is "do this or else!"
without any chance for appeal. I would hate to see a group scheduled...
and then get cut because the month before someone's car breaks down, or
their babysitter falls through, or someone gets sick, or something like
that. This also doesn't bode well from a promotional angle because in
order to do this right, we should announce the line-ups at least a
couple of months in advance... and if previously announced groups get
cut, then it would reflect badly on the entire series.
> BTW, I'm still waiting for that website to develop...
Haven't you visited it lately? It IS starting to flesh out... and will
continue to do so (your picture's even on there Veronica!). It has
promotional announcements and links for the CJs show AND the Library
show...

Well, lets see... We (I) got this list up and running (also keep it
maintained). We (I) got a bunch of folks to sign up on this list (and
missed the first bit of the Crimson concert) therefore giving us all
access to a bunch of local prog fans for promoting our shows. We (Bill
& I) got the website up (such as it is). We were instrumental in
helping produce and promote Roguefest, and we were instrumental in
helping Wade produce the Progression CD (how many of us would have even
KNOWN about it if not for ARIA?) We all got our music on Greg's
Internet Radio show. As far as building an audience, would Paine's
Promise, Lord Only AND Man on Fire even know of each other's existence,
MUCH LESS be sharing a show together without ARIA? Hopefully each band
will get exposed to each others handful of fans. Would this CJ's thing
have even happened if not for Matthew's involvement with ARIA? I know I
personally have worked my tail off trying to build ARIA into a viable
entity, and I have often felt alone trying to get things done. I only
have a limited amount of available time and energy.
While I'm venting, I must also add that one of the purposes of this
list is to share news of shows that may be of interest to prog fans in
town - but how many of ya'll have actually GONE to a show you've heard
about here (besides each others?) I only saw one ARIA member at the
League of Crafties show last Saturday (and he didn't even hear about it
from the list because his email account was down!) How many folks saw
Tunnels at Eyedrum? One way to build an audience for Art Rock In
Atlanta is to support some of these other shows too. If the presenters
see good crowds showing up for prog shows, then they'll start booking
more prog shows - and that will be of benefit to all of us.
See ya'll next Monday...
