[atlantaprog] Re: atlantaprog Digest V1 #66

Yep, ASCAP and BMI decided to strong-arm us at SeismicRadio, too. "Thou
shalt not play any artists who are on ASCAP and BMI."

So, we don't. :) --Or we get written permission from the songwriters to
play their stuff fee-free. Most of the bands we play are progressive bands
who owe their existence to the underground prog and metal movement, so they're
more than happy to get the exposure.

Years ago, the Wreck Room was likewise approached by one of the two (ASCAP or
BMI) about music played over the club PA between bands (but NOT about music
played on stage). The result? Toe (the owner) just told them "Fine, we
won't play any artists who are licensed through you, and they'll get less
exposure." And that's exactly what we did. :)
