I might point out that Enya's producer is a big Phil Spector fan.
*Lots* of those '80s records, in fact, were produced by people who wanted
to be The Phil Spector Of The '80s, with their Perfect Pop Creations built
around what are really rather "little" tunes. "Merry little synthesizers
crammed into every nook and cranny" fit perfectly with that. It's not for
nothing that Phil Collins covered "You Can't Hurry Love" and "A Groovy Kind
Of Love," or that (IIRC) Stock, Aitken, and Waterman (remember them?) had
Bananarama cover "Venus".
