The 80s was absolutely the worst decade for album production I can imagine.  
The keyboard and drum sounds alone fly in flagrant violation of the Geneva 
conventions for sonic Velveeta.  Once you get past the cool minimalism of late 
seventies and early eighties punk and new wave it's pretty much all over.  
There 
are so many eighties albums where I like the songs, but think the albums 
sound just horrible because those crappy plastic keyboard and drum sounds, Hold 
Your Fire by Rush and So by Peter Gabriel to name a couple.  I grew up in the 
80s and I instinctively gravitated towards music recorded in the sixties and 
seventies because it sounded "real" and "alive" to me.
