Z-Axis to appear at Eyedrum



Atlanta's own Z-Axis, a post-progressive rock band, will be appearing 
at Eyedrum, 290 MLK Jr. Dr. SE, Suite 8, Atlanta, GA on Friday, June 
20th at 9:00 PM. They will be joined by special guests The Mountains 
of Magma - Adventures in Interstellar Guitar. A $5 donation is 
requested at the door.

Z-Axis will be performing selections from their debut CD, "Music from 
Reality Check" and new selections from their upcoming follow-up CD 
(as of yet, untitled). They will also be performing selections from 
their soundtrack to "The Crossing", a multi-media aerial performance 
work by the Gnosis performance group to be premiered at 7-Stages 
Theater the following week (June 27-29).

The Z-Axis performance will be augmented by visual art projections by 
Madeleine St. Romain and others, and by video images by Allen 
Welty-Green.

Z-Axis was initially formed in 1997 to perform the music for the 
multi-media performance event, "Reality Check". As they started 
working together, they soon discovered a unique chemistry and decided 
to make Z-Axis an independent entity. Their debut CD includes music 
composed by Allen Welty-Green for "Reality Check", which premiered in 
1999. The "Reality Check" CD received enthusiastic reviews from 
across the world and is still selling briskly from their website. 
Meanwhile Z-Axis has begun recording their second CD, due to be 
released later in 2003.

Z-Axis's live performances frequently incorporate multi-media 
elements, visual imagery and performance art. They frequently 
featured free-form improvs in their set alongside the more "composed" 
pieces. They have opened for a number of progressive rock acts that 
have passed through their home base of Atlanta, including The Flower 
Kings, Spock's Beard and French TV.



Adventures in Interstellar Guitar - The Mountains of Magma

The Mountains of Magma are the creation of the fevered paranoiac and 
schizophrenological droolings of local guitar-guru-cum-cult-svengali, 
Robo d'Tronique. With presentation ranging in scope from solo guitar 
to ensemble for 64 Plectral Adherents, Mountains of Magma delivers 
soothing soundscapes, the wrath of post-industrial apocalyptic 
skronk, or multi-layered symphonettes and chamber pieces for acoustic 
and electric guitar ensembles for 2 to 64 players. Interchangable 
zombified cult-members, with matching sneakers and kool-aid cups, may 
substitute readily one for the other, at the behest of their 
all-revered-and-feared sonic and spiritual scion.

Punishment for smiles, missed notes, or any other semblance of 
individual expression is readily meted out onstage by the frightful 
d'Tronique, whose vengeance is swift and horrible. One offender, who 
dared miss a note AND THEN SMILE ABOUT IT, had his guitar rendered 
unto splinters by d'Tronique's wrathful glare, delivered from a 
distance of twenty paces. The poor wretch experienced bleeding 
fingertips (aka "d'Tronique stigmata") for the 40 days and nights 
following, and finally skulked away under dark of night, a broken and 
sorry husk of humanity.

So, come one and all for the spectacle, the terror, the salvation. Oh 
yes, and for the music.
