[atlantaprog] Wishbone Ash, Prog Power, Dominic Gaudious

I went to see Wishbone Ash at the Variety last night. Sorry I couldn't
make it to Prog Day.

I'm 39 and I was one of the youngest people there. Didn't see any of
you guys. They played for two hours and it was awesome. I must confess
that I wasn't that familiar with their stuff--I've just heard a
Greatest Hits album and "Argus".

There were about 300 people there. On the bluesy rocky numbers, it was
very amusing to see dozens of couples around age 50-plus boogying like
teenagers, and likewise scrambling to catch the guitar picks tossed
from the stage at the end. And singing along to the lyrics. (Gibson
Guitars has a slogan, "Lyrics: Wasted time between solos" which seems
to be tailor-made for this guitar band.) Wishbone Ash did a Caribbean
cruise for the fans a couple of years ago, and one guy in the audience
had a T-shirt from that event.

I can't imagine that the band or the Variety made any money from this
small crowd at $20 a head, but boy were they enthusiastic, and the band
seemed to appreciate it. This has to be their first Atlanta concert in
30 years.

Obviously I'm once again not going to the Prog Power festival, which
started last night and continues tonight and, like NearFest, was sold
out the minute tickets went on sale six months ago.

FInally, on Saturday, September 27 at the Variety Playhouse, local
progger Dominic Gaudious is co-headlining and premiering his new live
band. I think it's really important that we come out and show our
support.
