[atlantaprog] Re: Victor Wooten, Variety, July 16

Wheat, I saw Victor Wooten et al the previous time his band was at VP. It was
great, but not my cup of tea by the end of the night. Too relentlessly funky
for too long without a break or too flashy or something. It was also *very*
crowded and hot. FWIW I prefer Victor's bass playing in his other band, Bela
Fleck and the Flecktones (I hope Beth has heard of him in that context.) I'm
glad to hear they did an RTF cover and Kashmir.

I guess I was spoiled as a kid by repeatedly seeing funk bands that would rock
out and play other styles just as well as they played funk and soul. If I'd
known Futureman and Steve Bailey were going to sit in with the family band, I
would have made more effort to get there this time.

They are a fun surprise to spring on the uninitiated. It's not what most folks
would expect if you told them you were taking them to see a band mostly
composed of siblings that grew up pickin'n'grinnin' together in Nashville.
heheh.
