It's even worse over here in Augusta ya'll!!! There's like two clubs here
and everyone is trying to get in to them. One is too small, can only handle
acoustic shows...the other is so booked up it's unreal! Oh well:(
That's odd because we have been contacted by numerous venues in Augusta
about performing. Most of the venues don't pay well by regional standards,
but they pay better than most places in Atlanta. Georgia is a tough state
all around for original music - and actually, it's even a tough state for
cover bands. Athens and Atlanta are really oversaturated with bands and the
people in the clubs in both cities just don't seem to care a bit about the
musicians that they hire. Savannah seems to have almost no audience for
live music and most of the small towns in Georgia don't have good venues for
live music at all. Augusta, by Georgia standards, doesn't seem that bad to
me. We've had a lot of good experiences there. However, it does seem to me
that South Carolina has been the state that gives the most support to local,
original music. Columbia and Greenville both have great music scenes and
there seem to be a lot more small town music venues in South Carolina than
in Georgia.
The Masquerade, for one, is slated to close next year...and the owners are
reported to be looking at either Underground or somewhere in the burbs for
their new location...
Actually, they've already just opened one new club up here in Roswell. One
of our band members was just over there talking to them about the new place.
It sounds like they're planning a very different sort of place up here
than their previous venues...much more family oriented. They still plan to
have live music, but I don't think it will be a similar crowd - at least not
at this location.
Any news on when the next ARIA meeting will be held?
-Wade
