You must remember that he is talking about the New York Tower, and IIRC, their prices were on the high side.

I pay for downloads all the time, but usually just for one or two odd songs from artists I'm not especially into otherwise. I generally buy the physical CDs rather than downloading them, however. I don't find the itunes DRM especially egregious - especially since itunes wouldn't even exist without it (the record companies wouldn't have allowed them to sell their tracks unprotected). The workaround for itunes DRM is so simple - just burn an audio CD of the tracks! Then, if you ever have the need to exceed Apple's generous DRM allowance, (5 computers, 5 ipods, or something like that) - then just simply reimport the track from aforementioned CD. Heck, I back up all of my digital audio files anyway. So it's no big deal to burn audio CDs of the DRM tracks!

<x-tad-bigger>I've never found the Tower staff to be too much to write home about, but me asking for help in a record store is like a duck asking for swimming tips.  The only reason for me to ask for help would be a possibly lame attempt on my part to initiate conversation with someone (preferably of the opposite sex) who looked interesting.  Otherwise if it's in the store I'll find it myself. </x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>The only reasons I cut back on my Tower visits in recent years were:  1.  I reached a point in my music buying where I had most of the back catalog that I wanted that was available from a mainstream, albeit fairly deep inventoried, store like Tower and had to go to the internet to keep getting my fix.  The only thing to get me back into the store were appealing new releases and there simply haven't been as many of those lately.  2.  They stopped staying open until midnight every night and my prime Tower visiting hours were 10-11:30PM. </x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>Anyway, I'll miss the place.  I'll order more stuff from Amazon and CD Universe.  I'll stop by Borders for my Mojo, my Uncut and my Tuesday new releases, such as they are these days.  It'll be a cold day in hell before I shell out money for a download, however, particularly a DRM crippled one like you get from the I-Tunes store.</x-tad-bigger>
