Allen Welty-Green asked:
So... anyone out there going to miss the place?
Well, I worked there for a couple of years, and they were a rockin'
store back then (even in the classical room!), ;-) the best
Atlanta had seen in a long time, since Peaches and Oz in the '70s,
maybe ever. So for the sake of that, I'll certainly miss it.
But even then people were talking about how badly managed the
business was at the top level; it's as if they knew even back in the
early '90s that it couldn't last forever. I wasn't directly in on
it, so I can't say for myself. But whenever I'd go in after I left
there, it seemed just a little worse. Then I went to the first
ProgDay and found out about The Prog Underground <tm> and all of a
sudden I almost stopped even thinking about record stores any more.
Then Tower got kicked out of Around Lenox Shopping Center and they
didn't even have a separate room for the classical music any more.
It'd be nice if they could at least keep the store on the Sunset
Strip (the original store, as I understand it) open; they actually
had a separate store across the street for classical music. Oh,
well. :-(
