[atlantaprog] Re: To the bands of ARIA: Re Marketing, etc.

We have had only limited benefit from our Myspace page, though it is a kick
when a stranger shows up at a show and says they found us through there
(does seem to happen at every show, though only 1-2 folks at a time).
CDBaby is an amazing company, but don't expect sales just because you list
an album with them, you still need to market.

The best return on our investment was signing up with Atlanta-based
10Tornado Productions for a full-on marketing and radio promotional
campaign. They got us airplay on 30 or so FM radio stations and over 200 FM
radio spins. This led to an increase in iTunes downloads, dramatic increase
in web-hits. However, due to the fact that most of our cds are picked up by
distributors that don't report individual sales, it is hard to know if it
led to increased sales in the radio markets that picked us up.

I think self-promotion can take you to a certain place, but I agree with
Kenny that seeking an outside organization to push your music is really the
best way to see if you got what you think you got.

Hope this helped.
