Now that is an understatement.
Billy Joel and Chicago are both prog. As is Ambrosia. You heard it
right here.
Trevor Rabin is much better suited for writing soundtracks for
Dreamworks animated features. Curiously enough, though, Phil Collins is
apparently much better suited for writing soundtracks to Disney animated
features.
So now, we can fully comprehend the ultimate destiny of prog music:
Sinbad cartoons.
Guitar is a dish that is best served cold. In guitar, no one can hear
you scream. You'll believe a guitar can fly.
Admittedly, some more flexible instrumental approaches might be valid in
prog keyboards.
But the only option other than the "organs, moogs, and trons, oh my"
path seems to be the "ugly DX7 tinkle and throb" path. Which is almost
(but not quite) infinitely less desirable.
I've worked with a grand total of 3 people who could write down their
ideas, and about 2 more who had some grasp of chords. It hasn't really
ever been a huge issue. Can't forget the "rock" in prog rock -- feel is
equally important as think.
