Andy,
Let me add to the din of applause how much I enjoyed
S3's set at RogueFest! I agree with Allen that you
guys were the surprise hit of the show!
Let me add to that. Despite your technical problems
onstage (you gotta get that Roland PK-5 MIDI pedal
power supply checked out, man! :-P), you handled it
with "grace under pressure" and performed with a lot
of heart! THAT impressed me the most! Being a
singer/bass player/keyboard player myself, I had an
appreciation for the difficulties you had doing the S3
material live with only three members!
I think that your band would benefit greatly by having
a fourth member, allowing you to devote your energies
better toward one instrument or the other...even Geddy
Lee doesn't work as hard as you were up there! :-P
I picked up a copy of the S3 CD from Rob, and I must
say that it is an excellent first effort! So far, the
favourite tune to jump out at me is
"Electrotrombonophone (ETP)". Catchy, almost
accessible! It in fact reminds me a lot of The
Buggles in its style (think Age of Plastic album,
which I have BTW). How in the world did you guys ever
think up that word, which is actually three words in
one? Hats off to the guy who thought that one up!
"The Revealing Solution Science of God"...ROFLMAO!
THAT was VERY tongue-in-cheek! Some of the "sound
bytes" in the "Static" track sound like great song
ideas...do you guys have more songs recorded?
Now on to something completely different...I was
checking out the S3 website and I have discovered some
sort of Cosmic Convergence phenomenon occuring (how's
THAT for S3-speak?). Did you know that I went to
Florida State in Tallahassee for college? Did you
know that I not only heard of bands like the Zen
Lemmings and Ultraboy, but I also saw them perform
live back in the day? Did you also know that I know
Kenny Howes way back from those same days in
Tallahassee (now he is in California, working for
Rickenbacker...the bastard! :-P) I also noticed that
your drummer Kelly Shane (also Kenny's drummer for a
time) at least USED to live in Rome, GA...where I have
been living for the past five years! How's THAT for
strange parallels?
Of course I find all of this out after the fact I have
seen you guys perform live! I THOUGHT that Rob and
Kelly looked (somewhat) familiar! I in fact had seen
them before (though it was like 12 years before)! :-P
Anyway, just some trivia I thought you should know!
If you guys get back up towards Rome to do anything
productive, let me know!
Regards,
Bill
