[atlantaprog] Spaceseed & Z-Axis at Eyedrum last night...

Didn't see too many of you there. Z-Axis played one of our better sets, and then Spaceseed took the stage with a "wall of sound" featuring TWO bassists, a guitarist, drummer, and Hawkwind's Harvey Bainbridge & another keyboardist (Carolyn aka "Sugar" Kayne) doing synthy sweeps and swooshes. Harvey and Sugar took a spacy keyboard solo interlude after about three band songs, then the band came back and rocked out into the wee hours. Their sound is very much like Hawkwind. Simple pounding chord structures repeated almost ad-inifitum with a few cosmic chant-like vocal bits over the top - pretty loud too.

The light show (just off of the road with Ozric Tentacles) was full throttle and relentless and very 60's looking, with various rotating psychedelic patterns, strobes, mirror ball, and various other oddities accompaning space slide images (nebulas, alien heads, etc.). The two guys operating it played their lighting gear like an instrument. If I had one criticism of the light show, it was that it lacked subtlty and dynamics. Everything was "cranked to 11" from beginning to end - I guess the same can be said of the band, too!
