People have complained about the bareness of the stages for the past two
tours on places like AMY etc., but I really have no problem with Yes touring
with
very simple staging and putting the focus on the music and players which IMHO
is where it belongs anyway. That's really one of the things that makes the
Symphonic DVD such an enjoyable and pure musical experience. The Dean staging
was cool for its time, but seemed a tad goofy in 2004. You do need a bit more
of the visual spectacle end of things for an arena show. I suppose that won't
be an issue if they stick to playing theaters and smaller venues in the
future.
In a post concert fit of Yestacy I ordered both QPR DVDs from CD Universe.
I've read all about the mix problems in the first half, so I have an idea of
what to expect soundwise. I'm just completely and totally desperate to see
some
70s Yes other than Yessongs. Incidentally, did anyone snag a tour program on
Wednesday? I've read reports that the program confirms the long term rumor
that one of the complete Topographic shows was actually professionally filmed
in its entirety. I wonder if this footage still exists and in what condition.
It would be a real treat if Yes gave us a definitive DVD retrospective of
their 70s peak years along the lines of what Led Zeppelin did last year.
