[atlantaprog] Re: Rush concert reviews?

I've only seen Rush live a handful of times, but this was the best show
that I have seen, DESPITE it being at lakewood, which is a crappy place
to go see a band IMHO, and the soundsystem has VERY little bass to it.

They seemed like they were having a great time together on stage. All
in all the show itself was a lot like the Vapro Trails tour - a lot of
the same visuals on the big screen, a lot of the same songs in the set.
They did 4 songs off of Feedback; The Seeker, Heartful of Soul,
Crossroads, and Summer Time Blues.

The standouts in the sets were the opening "R30 Overture" which was
basicaly a medley of snippets from the following songs;

Finding My Way
Anthem
Bastille Day
Bangcock
Cygnus
& Hemispheres

Red Barchetta
YYZ (no drum solo - much better that way I htink)
Between the Wheels
2112 (complete with Alex's scat singing break/maniacal laughtermelody
thing)
La Villa Strangiato
Xanadu

I don't understand why they didn't have the cameras on all the time.
They had cameras there filming the guys so that the image would be
projected onto the big screen behind them. However, those cameras
(which are great for those of us on the lawn) were only on half the
time.

Jerry Stiler opened and closed the show (pre-recorded video footage -
seeing Jerry Stiller wearing a Rush Tshirt was a little odd).

Alex brought all of his guitars, including his red PRS which he uses
most now, a gold top les paul reissue, his white ES-335, his white
SG-Double neck, a black les paul custom

Interestingly enough, Alex brought out a Telecaster for part of the
show. I saw it and though "What is he doing"? A tele just doesn't seem
right for ANY Rush songs. Wel I swear, he the best tone of the night
when he played that Tele, esp the first solo with the tele. It sounded
a hell of a lot better than his PRS and LesPauls. Thicker, more
toneful. Very surprising. I'd be interested to know his setup/pickups
etc for that Tele.

"Xanadu" live? Wow! I guess they'll never do "By-tor and the Snowdog"
live again?

"By-tor" has been in the set the last two tours, with a really funny
cartoon sequence too.
