[atlantaprog] Progress is being made...

Hi,

First off, welcome to the new folks who have recently subscribed to
this list. Please send a message to the list and introduce
yourselves! And feel free to go to the freelists.org website and
check out the archives. Some good info has passed through this list
in its week-long existence.

Just a check in to let you know how some things we've discussed are
shaping up...

Many of you saw Wade's email about a compilation CD. It seems that
Progression Magazine is willing to distribute it as an insert, along
with write-ups on the bands. I'm sure Wade or someone will keep you
abreast of developments on this front. This is good news!

I am playing phone tag with someone from WRFG to discuss the ins and
outs of getting a program on the air there. A question for everyone -
how many of you ever listen to WRFG? Most of the playlist is reggae,
blues, worldbeat and some occasional bluegrass so it may not be up
your alley, but I need to know if this is indeed an avenue worth
pursuing... I really wish we could get an "in" at WREK or WRAS!!

I sent copies of our festival ideas to Steve at Variety. I saw him
tonight at the Residents show and he seems truly interested in making
it happen. He's going to try and come to the December meeting. This
is also good news! Steve would be a valuable ally.

There is other stuff brewing out there, but nothing to report yet...

PS... I know at least one or two folks on this list wonder if they
are really part of the Atlanta "prog" scene since they don't really
think of themselves as "prog". I think we should strive to be as
inclusive as possible when we talk about prog. That's one reason I
use the term progressive MUSIC instead of progressive ROCK (I hope we
can someday come up with a better name - "prog" has negative
connotations to some people unfortunately). I see this group as open
to people who are doing anything from traditional "progressive rock"
to what might be called "new age" to fusion to ambient to space music
to psychedelic to ??? In short, most any artist whose music might fit
in to the category "none of the above"!!!
