If anyone wants to hear prog rock reinvented for a new generation then you
really need to head down to your nearest CD emporium and pick up an album
called
De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta. I'm pretty well blown away
because I didn't think a major label would put anything like this out anymore.
I don't know much about any of these guys, other than that Flea of Red Hot
Chili Peppers fame plays bass.
Anyway, we're talking soaring vocals that recall Robert Plant, Freddie
Mercury, Jeff Buckley and Geddy Lee; jaggedy and completely unpredictable song
structures that brim with ideas and headphone candy. Oh, and they don't forget
to
rock out either. If you locked Radiohead in a basement for a month with some
70s Rush albums for a month and then sent them into the studio, then they
might come out with a record that sounds a bit like this.
Oh, and as an added bonus, it seems to be selling everywhere for $9.99.
