The Rhodes electromechanical piano is back. The real thing, totally mechanical and analog, based on the Mark V from 1968.

Prices will start around $2K. You can get 'em in fire-engine red or Alpine white if you don't like black.

Ehhh... I'll have to see it. That sounds like a lot more than the price would be adjusting for inflation, too.

I wish this company a lot of luck.

Me, too.

It must have been horrendously expensive to re-create all the tooling from scratch, since the last Rhodes were made in the early 70s and the original factory and tools were doubtless destroyed. Will enough people buy this thing to keep the company afloat?

Well, as I recall, they were actually manufactured through the mid-'80s (the ones made in the early '70s have the Fender logo next to the Rhodes one); I guess that would've been the Mark VI, with the flat surface (and MIDI out, if I recall correctly), which I think listed for about $2K. So maybe some of the original tools are still around; I wouldn't be surprised to find that Harold Rhodes might've had some souvenirs!
