[atlantaprog] Re: My take on Tull...

Sorry I didn't see you there! Maybe next time...

Just came back from the show and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! Anderson's voice was in good shape. You could tell he was having to reach a bit for some of the high notes but it wasn't a problem (unlike Nektar. Roye Albrighton just can't pull it off these days).

Hmmm. I saw Nektar at NEARfest and he sounded OK. Maybe I don't have anything to compare it to. Anderson, OTOH, sang a bit flat all through the night, and the timbre of his voice isn't what it was in the early '80s, much less in the early '70s. His voice seemed to have lost its endurance. Maybe I should just accept it for what it is. (It might be that his singing *style* has changed, too--it's lost most of the 'tude it used to have and is much more earnest now.)

And then he said, "Bye, bye!" at the end of the main set...and hit a perfect G! (The note he apparently thought he couldn't afford to hit a few times every night in "Hymn 43" and "Up To Me"!) I wonder if he knows...?

The sound was excellent,...

True. Martin Barre sounded especially good.

I was wondering how they would pull off the "Gregorian Chant" section of My God - answer: sampled voices played by Giddings!

And they appear to be drawn from the original record! :-)

Another cover toon was an intrumental arrangement of Kashmir, with [Lucia Micarelli's] violin handling the vocal line - with a cameo appearence by the bridge lead guitar break from Whole Lotta Love, where her violin rocked out every bit as hard as Page's guitar.

Oooh--I forgot about that one!

...Bouree.

D'oh!

The first half of Hymn 42 was given an Irish Jig flavor... and it worked!

Right! (They transposed this one down a minor third, but the key of B seems to suit it.)

And don't forget when Ian played the "Satisfaction" riff on his flute! He went out of his way to show his gratitude to the audience for being there when they could've been at the Stones show!
