I just saw Pulse, the new Imax film from Stomp (the found percussion
group). I must say if you are the least bit interested in world music,
you MUST see this film! It only includes a few bits of the actually
Stomp folks (perfoming on/in firescapes, subways, barber shops, under
the English Channel, etc.). Mostly it features amazing footage of
performers from across the world... African drum groups performing on
the Serengeti, Brazilian festival samba orchestras, Indian royal
pagents, Native Americans in Utah's canyon country, dueling drum corps
on the Brooklyn Bridge, Flamenco on the rooftops of Granada, Spain,
Japanese Taiko drummers, etc. all brilliantly edited and spliced into a
seamless exploration of rhythm... and on the iMax screen, it is
breathtaking and amazingly moving. It's showing at Fernbank.

Another upcoming event of note - Lelavision is returning to 7 Stages
from Nov. 28 - Dec. 7. If you have seen them before, you know how
incredible their work is. If you HAVEN'T seen them - YOU MUST! Their
music, performed on Ela Lamblin's amazing musical inventions, is
haunting and beautiful. Their choreography is witty, and their overall
presentation is highly compelling.
