...and many of the prog bands that can write a good tune, just lose it
when their vocalist opens up his mouth! I can't tell you how many times
I have listened to some prog song on my XM radio, thinking it was cool,
only to have the singer come in and ruin the whole thing to the point
where I change the channel!
Frank Zappa was hit & miss when it came to melody - more miss than hit I
think. Take the classic hummable Zappa tunes like "Montana", "Dinah Moe
Hum" "Dancin Fool" etc. and count 'em up, and then compare them to say,
stuff like on "Guitar". Ugh! I HATE the "Guitar" album, and I am a
zappa fan and a guitarist! But, for the most part it seems aimless and
very unmelodical.
Then you have Joe's Garage, which is the total opposite...
