So with that said, how were U.M.'s originals?
It was sometimes a bit hard to know where one started and another
begin. UM has certainly perfected the art of segue-ways! But the
elements of pure "songcrafting" that emerged with rather accessible and
appealing. The comparisons to Steely Dan and They Might be Giants stem
from their approach to lyric and melody moreso than their instrumental
technique. No mountains coming out the sky, or new Jerusalems here.
Lyrics tended to be quirky and melodies tended to be hummable.
