[atlantaprog] Meeting notes...

Hi folks,

Tonight's meeting was VERY sparse... where was everybody?

Matthew and I did get to commiserate a bit on the CJs thing (looks like
a good deal - let's all make it work!). This will give me impetus to
finally get the ARIA website up and functioning as more than just a
intro page. Also, we talked about the need for press. This is something
that warrants a CL write up and I've got just the man to do it... HEY
WHEAT! Are you listening??? You have professional journalism cred...
how would you feel about contacting CL and offering to do a freelance
piece for them on the burgeoning prog scene in Atlanta and this scrappy
little group of musicians and fans (ie ARIA) who are banding together
to put together a monthly series of concerts? A few dramatic pics
(maybe an ARIA group portrait taken at the next meeting?) would help!

I also proposed opening this CJs thing up to regional acts.... Land of
Chocolate, Smokin' Granny, Ozone Quartet - any of these folks would
probably schlep it down here for a gig... maybe we could lure Glass
Hammer down here? Once the word gets out that we've got a monthly prog
series going on, bands will crawl out of the woodwork.

Matthew left pretty early (had prior plans) and Brian and Hal from Lord
Only, and Jeff from Paracelsus showed up and we all sat around trading
war stories for a while....

An idea for the next meeting... Critical Response. Liz Lerman, a
choreographer from DC, has developed an amazing "system" for talking
about and constructively critiquing an artist's work. I would like for
a couple of people to bring in works-in-progress, or even completed
works so I can teach ya'll the system. I have used CRP (Critical
Response Process) in much of my theater work and it is a great tool for
understanding an artist's work and it's a great way for an artist to
get constructive feedback from their work without having to put up with
a lot of BS. Anybody up for giving it a try? Once you learn the system,
you can use it in your own group settings to help develop your pieces
and to get past log jams, train wrecks, and roadblocks.

Speaking of the next meeting - it is set for MONDAY, OCTOBER 6th at
Manuels. Mark your calendars! Things are starting to happen... let's
keep the momentum up.
