Yes, we need a flyer printed up to hand out at the King Crimson and
Godspeed You Black Emperor shows which are coming up soon. I'll write
the copy and volunteer to man the table. Who's going to pay for the
printing? I assume Allen can contact the Variety and obtain permission
to set up a table in the lobby.
One of my few claims to fame is that I know Adrian and Martha Belew,
have hung out with them in clubs in Nashville, and have visited their
house a few times. I have also actually shaken Robert Fripp's hand, and
lived to tell about it.
Adrian Belew has a nice official fan website maintained by a guy named
Rob Murphree from Huntsville, Alabama. Maybe Rob could put a link to
the ARIA web site on the Belew site.
Crimson is struggling. While their mini-tour with Tool awhile back was
quite triumphant, it hasn't translated into more success. Robert Fripp
basically shut down the business venture that was Discipline Global
Mobile Records last year. The web site is still there and they still
sell Crimson records, but that's it. No label, no worldwide
distribution. While recent Crimson records have been put out on the
Virgin Records label around the world, the new Crimson record is on the
Sanctuary label, a boutique which specializes in has-been metal acts.
More than a year ago Adrian Belew had to give up his manager of 20
years, and now represents himself. He also had a record deal
arrangement with Caroline Records for his own sub-label called Adrian
Belew Presents, and I believe that's also no longer a going concern.
I'd also like to point out that Crimson is one of the last Progressive
band from the 70s who are committed to continued innovation and
presenting new music. They make a point of not playing their classic
compositions from the 70s and 80s, and not joining golden oldies
amphitheater tours. When we think of "progressive" music, most of us
are "regressing" back to the style of the great bands of the 70s, but
Crimson ain't. Even though I find their music opaque and hard to relate
to much of the time, I really love these guys for what they do.
