I have to weigh in here. Coldplay gets better and better with each new
album. They will long be remembered as one of the best rock bands of
this decade. I think "Viva la Vida" is a beautiful song with great
lyrics, and the string section arrangement is one of the most effective
I've ever heard in a rock context. Yet, it's apparent that they've done
another "My Sweet Lord"/"He's So Fine" here.
The Beach Boys had to give full, sole songwriting credit to Chuck Berry,
along with all royalties, after the fact for "Surfin' USA" because of
Berry's prior "Sweet Little 16". I believe it was an out-of-court
settlement before it went to trial.
I hope Coldplay does the right thing and makes an earnest apology and
restitution to Satriani and everybody goes happily on their way.
Coldplay has written and recorded some mighty good modern pop music and
I hope they continue to make more.
