[atlantaprog] Re: It really was as bad as I imagined...

There were other clips in the series - he was caped in some of the earlier ones! Those horse-things the "knights" were wearing were really just too much. And DAMN! Those "singers"! Like fingernails on a chalkboard!

Oh, I don't know. I mean, I can understand, but I'm not sure I can *agree*, even if the Sex Pistols seem to have aged better (not necessarily for the right reasons).

The Ice Capades bit isn't necessarily the worst thing about it, to be honest; the whole thing comes across like something Rick thought it might be fun to do rather than a product of the Inner Promptings Of His Musical Soul (but then lots of his own music sounds like that). Or maybe he's just not that great a composer. The mix (and performances?) don't help. At least he looks more animated than in a video I saw a few years ago of a performance in Australia of *Journey To The Center Of The Earth* (hey, where's the cape?).

As I understand it, the ice-show angle came about largely as a matter of necessity; I think the hall was booked the next night for a show that used the rink and it was either use the rink or move the show, or something like that--I can't quite remember. In a way, I admire his audacity in doing it at all!

By the way, here's a review from veteran r.m.p (Usenet) poster Christopher Currie:

(The last sentence is a reference to a *real fact*, not a conjecture.)
