And one would hope that they could do this and also omit the complete
materialism, predatory and demeaning sexuality and total self-centered
aspects that make American rap and hip-hop so repellent to listen to.
You shouldn't lump all "American rap and hip hop" together like that.
It's easy for someone on the outside to pick up on only the worst
aspects of a genre and assume that this is reflective of the whole
culture. How much do you know about hip hop beyond what filters through
on the TV set, or blaring from people's cars? I'm as repulsed by the
things you mention as anyone - but I'm also open minded enough to
realize that I'm only getting the most "newsworthy" aspects of certain
hip-hop artists.
All I know is that I had the opportunity to work with a number of young
hip-hop artists last year, and I was blown away. Some of these folks
had more artistic cred, and dare I say talent than many of the prog
musicians I know!
