[atlantaprog] Re: Here's our chance...!

Yeah!! What Matthew said!

Seriously, here's exactly what we said we all wanted, remember? To create
a scene right here at home. We ARE that scene. (enter the song "we are
the world"...) This may be the one and only chance we'll have to
accomplish this in this manner, having a monthly venue/showcase night.
It's damn hard in Atlanta right now to get gigs for some reason. I don't
know how many of you are out there actively gigging, but it didn't used to
be this bad. Like Matthew said, you practically can't pay the venue of
your choice to "let" you play there on a Tuesday night, you have to beg and
wheedle and you have to know someone there personally. It's ridiculous.

CJ's is actually a pretty decent place, and Curtis is a great soundguy. We
have talent in our midst that needs exposure and here's a chance. Like
Geddy Lee says, "Who's a fool where apathy rules - you've got to want it,
you've got to want it." Can we make a commitment to go to these Thursday
showcases? If there are enough of us to rotate around, we don't even have
to go every month if we don't want to. I know there's good shows on cable
and satellite, I know everybody works hard, I know cold beer and the
LazyBoy are truly tempting alternatives (or the beanbag chair and the bong,
whatever), but, you know what I'm saying? There's a great quote from way
back somewhere about "all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to
do nothing." Thoughts anyone?
