[atlantaprog] Heads up -

There's a very interesting group coming to Eyedrum on Monday, March 13th - The Dirty Projectors. They were here last summer and I worked sound for them and I must say I was very impressed! While they might bristle at the term "prog", their music speaks otherwise. Very eclectic - two female vocalists, Rhodes, pedal steel, trumpet violin, gtr. bass, drums. Sort of like a whimsical Magma - at times remeinscent of Zappa, or even Philip Glass. Their show is based around a rock opera their main guy wrote (but if any of you can spot the narrative, let me know!), and a video plays out behind them the whole time with some primitive, yet effective computer graphics telling the "story". They're on the bill with Marissa Nadler, whom I don't know much about, but she sounds interesting too. Visit the ED website and use the handy-dandy calendar system to scope out the details.

Also, on Sunday, April 9th, ambient music master Robert Rich will be at Eyedrum, with his huge modular Moog, racks of keyboards, flutes and lap steel in tow. If you like the Fripp soundscape stuff, you'll LOVE what this guy does! Opening for him will be local goth-ambient cello diva Diana Obscura (she opened for Z-Axis at one of our earliest shows as part of Aphelion, who some of you might recall)

Hope to see some of you there!

And BTW, I'm still trying to snag a date at Manuel's for an ARIA get together...
