Hey everyone,
Yeah, I just saw Guapo at NEARFest on Sunday. I STRONGLY urge everyone to go
see them tonight. If my plane arrives early enough from Newark, I too will go
see them tonight. Having seen them I can only describe them as a band that uses
the Godspeed You Black Emperor,smoulderly/slow-build-up-to-chaotic-climax as
their recipe book but instead of using cellos and other chamber instruments for
the build up, the band is lead by a vastly processed Fender Rhodes to lead the
sonic charge into new territories. No vocals to speak of. If I recall
correctly, their entire set at NF consisted of just two pieces. One each from
"Five Suns" and "Black Oni"
also on the bill with them is Zombi another band that appearantly is in the
same vein.
a full NEARFest report will be forthcoming upon my proper arrival home later
today.
teaser....Emerson was fantastic
