[atlantaprog] Re: Getting into RogueFest

Geez Wheat! Feelling a little negative are we??

>1) a pulse

>2) a drummer who knows at least a lick or two in 5, 7 or 11

Don't they all??

>3) at least one working monophonic analog synthesizer built in America
in the 1970s

I think only 2 out of the 12 bands last year met this requirement.

>4) the ability to put your band on stage in Atlanta with no funding
from RogueFest or ticket receipts. [Don't worry about the "hundreds" of
bands who submit applications. Requirements 4 and 5 knock every last
one of them out.]

Many of last year's bands were from elsewhere. Most club gigs don't pay any
more to original acts than Roguefest (see #5)

>5) the ability to front money for sound and lights, and lose it

No one except the organizers had to front any money... and our new venue won't
be charging any rent, plus sound and lights are already in place, so this
year's fest should actually generate some real $ for the bands. We also have a
marketing strategy in place that will go a long way towards increasing the
visibility of the fest. And lastly, the regular Jakes crowd are a bunch of
jam-band fans, and with the jam/prog crossovers that are going on these dyas,
we can probably expect a number of those folks to attend.

>6) a cursory familiarity with King Crimson's "Red", Genesis' "I Know
What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" or any one song sung by Jon Anderson

Well that certainely rules out a few country music or rap acts

>7) two family members (per band member) who will buy tickets and show
up for your set

Hey! the more folks in the seats, the better...

>Pardon my cynicism,

Hopefully your cynicism won't rub off on others. I've hooked up with Wade as
co-organizer this year (Matthew is out of the loop) and I'm really hoping for
some support from the Atlanta prog community!
