What about lossless formats? And can't you load actual CD-format
and .WAV files onto an iPod? Or is something else stopping you?
I like the permanence and packaging of CDs, and don't want to fool with the
time/$ that goes with the format conversion-- transferring hundreds of CDs,
buying the iPod and car equipment (and upgrading 3 years from now), fiddling
with iTunes, Rhapsody or eMusic accounts, restoring files after a hard drive
crash or lost/stolen iPod, DRM, etc. Plus I don't listen to music with
ear-buds, only at home or in the car, so the idea of carrying my whole music
collection in a cigarette pack while jogging is useless. Granted these issues
are minor, but CDs work fine for me and they're always 44.1/16. I can hand
someone a CD instead of telling them to go download something later or messing
with PCs/cables. I switched from vinyl/cassette to CD because there was a
major advantage with durability, fidelity, portability, lossless copying and
playing time. It was the same with VHS/DVD but I don't see CD/iPod as a
quantum leap.

Well, we've got our videophones now. We're not using them to
communicate face-to-face, though, due to the form factor, despite the
headsets apparently available.
And remember, we've each got enough computing power on our desks
today to run a Project Apollo mission! (And the Internet, and
GUIs. Three out of four ain't bad!)
Yeah but the Apollo guys didn't have to run Windows!
(BTW, who *is* Pete Doherty, anyway?)
Singer for the Babyshambles (who?) and an addict/troublemaker who gets more
press for that than his music. Basically Rodney King with a guitar.
