If the laptop is what you can afford and you insist on maintaining 100% creative control, it's good that approach is at least feasible now.

I figure that professional engineers should be in demand even for people recording on laptops--at least those with good outboard gear. With the right inputs and a professional engineer (which I'll admit would cost thousands), apparently you *should* be able to record sellable music on your laptop. At least the entry gateway has been lowered.

I don't have an iPod and don't want one, only CDs.

What about lossless formats? And can't you load actual CD-format and .WAV files onto an iPod? Or is something else stopping you?

I've been waiting for my videophone and personal jetpack since the 70's...

Well, we've got our videophones now. We're not using them to communicate face-to-face, though, due to the form factor, despite the headsets apparently available.

And remember, we've each got enough computing power on our desks today to run a Project Apollo mission! (And the Internet, and GUIs. Three out of four ain't bad!)

(BTW, who *is* Pete Doherty, anyway?)
