[atlantaprog] Re: Fwd: 9 LIVES IS CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interestingly enough, I live in L5P (though I'm hardly moneyed!) and though I've seen my share of panhandlers (no doubt many of which are crackheads), I just had my first experience with a "dealer" yesterday! I was standing outside of my car in the parking lot in front of Criminal Records talking with a friend and a guy who I had pegged as a panhandler crossed the street and started trying to talk us up. I tried to give him the nonchalant brush-off, but he just kept hovering and finally asked in a low voice if I "needed anything". We got in the car and left.

I can imagine experiences like that keeping squeamish folks away from L5P, but as for me it's just life in the big city. I have spent many hours walking around the streets of L5P and if that's as bad as it gets, then that's not a likely reason to shut down a rock club!

Humor is good for laughs, but if it were left to the miscreants that populate L5P, 9 Lives would continue.  Two friends of mine are part of the L5P NA and were in the minority that supported 9L.  This is just another example of the moneyed and upwardly mobile moving into a “charming” neighborhood, then dismantling the very culture that they gravitated to in the first place.  Backstreet in Midtown is an example of a much longer standing “cultural” destination that has been forced out by “concerned” newcomers.
