Actually I'm intimately familiar with 7 Stages. They're a *real* theater (plays and such), not a concert venue. They do rent out they're space from time to time but it's usually to other theater companies. Because of my relationship with them, Z-Axis has done occasional events there, but they are a rental facility (and it ain't cheap).
I am going to approach the Five Spot in L5P, Jake's Toadhouse, and perhaps Red Light Cafe about an ARIA series. If none of them bite, then I'm throwing in the towel and hope that someone else tries to get something going. You have been warned!

<x-tad-smaller>What about a place like the 7 Stages right next to the Variety Playhouse in L5P? Pretty interesting place and they have had bands in there before. THey have a little stage. Everytime that I've gone in there there was no band playing, and it was kinda dead. They might *need* business! :-)</x-tad-smaller>

From what I've heard, Brandyhouse is a pay-to-play set-up. I think some ARIA bands have played there and were required to pony up a couple hundred bucks, regardless of what the door took in. I am philosophically opposed to pay-to-play, that's why I was luke-warm about CJ's (Matthew ended up shelling out several hundred dollars out of his pocket during the duration of the CJ's series because the door didn't generate enough to cover CJ's fee. To me, if you want to RENT a space, that's one thing... but if you are playing at a place that is making bar income from your audience, then you shouldn't have to pay. It's demeaning to artists.
At least Curtis only wanted a $50 soundman fee. That's OK.
If someone knows any different about Brandyhouse, please enlighten me.
It is my intention to contact the Five Spot, a new eclectic music venue in L5P that specializes in niche genres and doesn't charge a cover. I also want to contact Jake's Toadhouse. If I strike out at both of those places, then it's up to one of ya'll to pick it up!

THE CRACK HEADS AND COKE DEALERS WON THE FIGHT.......................
I though the fight was with the neighborhood Association… they probably want another vintage clothing store.
The fight, from MY perspective has been with short-sighted owners. I can't for the life of me fathom why a rock club on L5P square - of all places - isn't thriving! From my experience, Curtis was a shallow-minded headbanger type of guy. I know that, during his tenure as 9-lives booking person, he didn't handle things in a professional manner. A complete lack of vision, not returning phone calls, telling one person one thing and another something different, not living up to verbal agreements, lying, etc. It doesn't surprise me that he blames the denizens of L5P square, whom he derisively refers to as crack heads and dealers, for his own failures.
In the long run we're better off not having to deal with him, but now that means we're back at square one in regards to building a relationship with a club.
To be honest with ya'll, as much as I'd love to see it happen, I'm not sure I'm up to the fight!
